The Signet Library Heritage

To raise and apply money for projects associated with preservation, maintenance and repair of the Signet Library’s historic building and unique collections.

The Signet Library is one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in Scotland. Last year over 11,000 people visited the Signet Library. Whilst the building is 200 years old, the history of the Writers to the Signet goes back over 500 years. The Signet Library embodies the authority and prestige of the Writers to the Signet and the spirit of the Enlightenment when the building was designed and built.

One area of priority for fundraising is the installation of a lift to enable access for disabled persons to the Upper Library. The lift project is part of the WS Society’s and Signet Library Heritage’s longer term strategic plan to improve the building, with the aim of ensuring effective access and use by future generations.

The Deputy Keeper of the Signet, Office Bearers, Clerk and Chief Executive of the WS Society.
