WS PCC programme 2010
The WS Society has confirmed its PCC programme for 2010. This programme features its innovative PCC core courses and practice- specific electives, with a number of new electives added in areas such as Charities, Environmental Law and Human Rights.
At the start of 2009, the WS launched its new PCC course, written in conjunction with leading practitioners and based on the latest thinking in professional development. This new PCC adopts an innovative approach to delivering the Law Society’s curriculum. Throughout the core PCC programme, the trainees follow a “real client” for the duration of the course, the client being played by an actor. From interviewing this client and writing letters of engagement, through to negotiating and drafting on their behalf, trainees get to practice, consolidate and enhance their skills in ways directly relevant to the realities of legal practice.
This approach is mirrored in the design and delivery of the WS’ extensive PCC elective programme. For example, in the highly popular “Civil Litigation Elective”, trainees conduct a civil proof over the course of three days. They get the chance to precognose witnesses and draft the relevant court documents before moving on to a “ real life” court room scenario to practice their advocacy skills on behalf of their clients, one again played by actors.
New electives announced for 2010 include: Commercial Litigation, Construction Law, Charity Law, Environmental Law, Human Rights and Mergers & Acquisitions.
Ann Davidson, Assistant Director at the WS Society said “the WS Society promotes the highest standards of education and professional development within the legal profession and this is clearly reflected in the development and delivery of its PCC courses. We combine first class training in legal knowledge, business skills and ethics within the context of “real life “client scenarios. The result is a range of core and practice - specific electives that really make a difference in practice for both firms and their trainees”.
All trainees booking the core course and 18 hours of electives in 2010 will automatically be granted complimentary affiliate membership of the WS Society for the 2010/2011 membership year, giving them access to its full affiliate membership programme.
