Conduct and Complaints

NATURE OF MEMBERSHIP

Membership of the Society of Writers to His Majesty’s Signet means belonging to one of the oldest and most respected legal institutions in Scotland. Members who are Writers to the Signet form a constituent body of Scotland’s College of Justice, founded in 1532. It follows that there are standards of conduct expected of all members of the Society and this is most especially so in the case of Writers to the Signet.

The Society’s trustees have therefore issued a Code of Conduct to set out the standards of behaviour expected of all members of the Society. The Code of Conduct is set out below.

COMPLAINTS

Any complaint about any member’s failure to comply with the standards set out in the Code of Conduct should be made in writing and addressed to the Society’s Chief Executive, or, alternatively, addressed to the Society’s Fiscal, providing the name and contact details of the person complaining. An email to complaint@wssociety.co.uk is sufficient for a complaint in writing.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR MEMBERS

The Code of Conduct can be accessed here.

The Society is committed to ensuring that the Code of Conduct is made available in an accessible format and, if you require the text in another form or language, we will respond to any reasonable request in this regard.
